Hurricane Harvey 2017 - August 26, 2017 near landfalls in USA

Hurricane Harvey is a tropical cyclone currently threatening to make landfall in Texas as a major hurricane, which would be the first storm of such intensity to strike the United States since Wilma in 2005 and the first to hit the state since Bret in 1999. The eighth named storm and third hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season, Harvey developed from a tropical wave to the east of the Lesser Antilles on August 17. The storm crossed through the Windward Islands on the following day, passing just south of Barbados and later near Saint Vincent.

Upon entering the Caribbean Sea, Harvey began to weaken due to moderate wind shear and degenerated into a tropical wave north of Colombia early on August 19. The remnants were monitored for regeneration as it continued west-northwestward across the Caribbean and the Yucatán Peninsula, before re-developing over the Bay of Campeche on August 23. Harvey then began to rapidly intensify on August 24, re-gaining tropical storm status and becoming a hurricane later that day.

As of 6:00 a.m. CDT (06:00 UTC) August 25, Hurricane Harvey is located within 15 nautical miles of 25.6°N 95.1°W, about 145 miles (335 km) southeast of Corpus Christi, Texas, or about 150 miles (335 km) south-southeast of Port O'Connor, Texas. Maximum sustained winds are 95 knots (110 mph; 175 km/h), a Category 2 on the Saffir–Simpson scale, with gusts up to 105 knots (120 mph; 195 km/h). The minimum barometric pressure is 950 mbar (hPa; 28.11 inHg), and the system is moving northwest at 9 knots (10 mph; 17 km/h). Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (40 km) from the center of Harvey, and tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) from the center.
